Our Christian preachers and holy men, our religious leaders, often promised us many huge, amazing physical miracles: the power to walk on water and move literal “mountains.” But many feel these promises do not come true, today. So what should we say? One “day,” the Bible said, we are supposed to discover that essentially “all” our holy men and preachers, were deceivers, “magicians,” “false prophets,” “illusion”ists. And so, what of those millions of priests and ministers who have been living and selling, promises of miracles?

“The Heavens Will Vanish Like Smoke” (Isa. 51.6).

“Both prophet and priest are ungodly” (Jer. 23.11 Revised Standard Version).

“Though they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down” (Amos 9.2).

“All nations were deceived by thy sorcery” (Rev. 18. 23 RSV).

“I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers” (Mal. 3.5).

“The prophet is a fool, the man of the spirit is mad” (Hos. 9.7).

“The dreamers tell false dreams, and give empty consolation” (Zech. 1.2 RSV).

“It deceives those who dwell on earth” (Rev. 3.13).

“Authority was given it over every tribe and people and tongue and nation, and all who dwell on earth will worship it, every one whose name has not be written” (Rev. 13.7)

“An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes?” (Jer. 5.31; 6.13).

“I will remove from the land the prophets and the unclean spirit. And if any prophets appear again, their fathers and mothers who bore them will say to them, ‘You shall not live, for you speak lies in the name of the LORD’; and their fathers and their mothers who bore them shall pierce them through when they prophesy” (Zech. 13.2-3).

“Every prophet will be ashamed of his vision” (Zech. 13.4)

“So shall Babylon the great city be thrown down…. For thy merchants were the great men of the earth, and all nations were deceived by sorcery” (Rev. 18.21, 23).

“Outside are the … sorcerers” (Rev. 22.15).

“The false prophet who … worked the signs” (Rev. 20. 20).

“The stars will fall from heaven” (Mat. 24.29; Mark 13.25).

“Punish the host of heaven, in heaven” (Isa. 24.21).
